We obtained Planning Approval in May 2023 and then retained for Principal Designer Services in January 2025, with construction works starting on site in April last year. 

We revisited the site last week and were delighted to see these 7 new family homes, in Somerset, approaching completion, and the developer providing a high finish and spec internally.

⭐️ Planning Approval Secured – Two-Storey Extension ⭐️

Wednesday, April 1st, 2026

We’re pleased to share that Dorset Council approved this planning application just 6 weeks after registration.

This project involves a thoughtfully designed two-storey extension to a semi-detached cottage in Stourpaine. The scheme will create a spacious master bedroom complete with a first-floor en-suite and dressing room, along with a new ground-floor living room.

Additional improvements include a redesigned main entrance, a modern utility and WC area, and internal alterations that will transform this charming rural cottage into a contemporary family home.

⭐️ Planning Approval – New Detached Chalet Bungalow ⭐️

Working with a local, well established developer, we are delighted that the local authority reached a positive decision and granted planning approval, for our proposed new detached chalet bungalow. The site in Lytchett Matravers, has been severed from the curtilage of an existing home that sat in a large plot.

⭐️ Planning Approval – New Childrens Nursery⭐️

Tuesday, January 27th, 2026

Working with DHPC planning consultants, who submitted the planning application, we are delighted that the local authority reached a positive decision and granted planning approval, for the change of use from residential to Childrens nursery. The site in Poole, is an existing detached house, with a new bungalow in the rear, and the proposals are to convert both areas into a nursery for the successful Muddy Boots Nursery Group.

Bats in the Attic

We went out to this site in the beautiful village of Fontmell back in February to meet with the client and discuss repair works to the detached stables barn accommodation, that had sadly suffered some severe fire damage in December. Thankfully no-one was injured, but the northern end of the building suffered damage, to the roof, Timber A Frames and timber floor. 

Repair works started on site at the beginning of April, and I popped back out to meet the Ecologist, Client and Builder last week to see progress. Fascinating talking to the ecologist about the different bats in the area, and interesting to learn about all the procedures we had to have in place, and mitigation measures in line with requirements from Annex D of the licensing process, following a non-licence method statement and under supervision of a suitably qualified ecologist. Let’s hope that all the efforts we are making in the repair works will encourage the bats to return once works are complete.

Throwback Thursday – RNLI Portishead

Portishead RNLI Lifeboat Station

On 5th April 2013, we were granted planning permission for the demolition of the old Masonic Lodge and the construction of a new Lifeboat Station, launch ramp, landscaping, and associated works on behalf of the RNLI. The site, located in the Barbican area of Portishead, sits right beside the Bristol Channel estuary and the historic Portishead Pier.

This milestone followed extensive feasibility studies and pre-application work dating back to 2011. The project went out to tender in October 2013, and by April 2015—exactly ten years ago this week—construction was successfully completed.

It was an incredibly rewarding, though intense and time-consuming project. Its success was only possible thanks to the dedication of a fantastic team of consultants, specialists, and a highly capable contractor. A true team effort, and another happy client. From vision to reality.

Somerset – New Housing Development

Excited to see this project officially break ground! Planning approval was secured in 2023 for the demolition of an existing pub and outbuildings, making way for 7 new homes complete with associated access and parking.

We’re proud to be retained as Principal Designer for this timber frame development, which kicked off last week with demolition and site preparation now underway.

Planning Approval for Detached Bungalow

Another happy client, another planning approval. This time creating a new 2 bed detached bungalow in Lytchett Matravers. This has been a lengthy planning application process, some 9 months from time of registration, and following a refusal for a similar scheme back in 2022. We carefully considered all reasons for refusal, and made amendments to the scheme, and addressed the BNG and Nitrates policies. A lot of effort for a small bungalow, but we got there through our careful and considered approach, negotiation skills and management.
