⭐️ Project Progress ⭐️

This beautiful Grade II Listed thatched cobb home suffered a significant collapse to one end, following a severe storm last year.

Appointed in the summer, we supported our client through the planning and building control processes, securing the necessary permissions to carry out the repair and reinstatement works.

We revisited the site this week and were delighted to see the project progressing well — despite the persistent rain and renewed flooding in the village. It’s fantastic to see such care and craftsmanship on display, with exceptional detailing by the thatchers, skilled stone masons, and lime plastering specialists.

⭐️ Another new home, another happy client ⭐️

We obtained planning permission to sever this plot and create a new semi-detached house, back in 2023. Then, after providing the building regulation drawings, the client took on the project management and build of the house themselves. Bumped into them whilst walking the dog last week and got invited in to see the almost completed works. Still needs some carpets and final finishing touches, but otherwise looks great.

Bats in the Attic

We went out to this site in the beautiful village of Fontmell back in February to meet with the client and discuss repair works to the detached stables barn accommodation, that had sadly suffered some severe fire damage in December. Thankfully no-one was injured, but the northern end of the building suffered damage, to the roof, Timber A Frames and timber floor. 

Repair works started on site at the beginning of April, and I popped back out to meet the Ecologist, Client and Builder last week to see progress. Fascinating talking to the ecologist about the different bats in the area, and interesting to learn about all the procedures we had to have in place, and mitigation measures in line with requirements from Annex D of the licensing process, following a non-licence method statement and under supervision of a suitably qualified ecologist. Let’s hope that all the efforts we are making in the repair works will encourage the bats to return once works are complete.

Somerset – New Housing Development

Excited to see this project officially break ground! Planning approval was secured in 2023 for the demolition of an existing pub and outbuildings, making way for 7 new homes complete with associated access and parking.

We’re proud to be retained as Principal Designer for this timber frame development, which kicked off last week with demolition and site preparation now underway.

Throwback Thursday

10 years ago, we obtained planning permission for the demolition of a pair of bungalows, in Lytchett Matravers, and redevelopment with 5 new 3 bedroom cottages. One being an unusual round thatched building that formed this corner plot. The concept, feasibility, design, planning and building regulation process took the best part of 18 months, but our carefully considered design, professional yet friendly approach, and help from our tree, ecology and planning colleagues, meant we were able to present our client with an approval for this scheme and get them on site as swiftly as possible. The building works were completed around 12 months later. Another happy developer and more family homes provided. From dreams to reality.
